Laura Bird is a ceramicist based in Hackney, East London. We first came across her work through the fabulous, quirky homeware brand Shrimps House. Her bright, playful pastels, mixed with bold black linework and historically-influenced subject matter are an instant pleasure for the eyes. They are captivating in their storytelling, and her confident hand-painted brushwork is both sophisticated and jovial.
Laura states that "a strong focus of narrative, character and pattern can be found in each ceramic piece." She reveals: "I love that a pot can tell a story, in both the decoration and the form as well as being something useful, becoming part of our daily lives. I am greatly inspired by ancient art, particularly Medieval, Greek, Roman and Celtic. Inspired by both the art they made and the stories they told."
